Cartridges

Soiled cartridges vs New cartridge.

(From L to R):

Cartridge A after 6 months. The location was in an old shop house in a busy district in Singapore.

Cartridge B after 8 months in a new residential area in the Eastern zone of Singapore.

Cartridge C is a new cartridge.

The shop owner of Cartridge A was advised to change his cartridge more frequently (4 monthly) or to install a Double Undersink Water Filter. This way, he only needs to change the sediment filter more regularly which is more cost effective.

What Do You Want To Filter Out?

  • Rust or sediment can make the water cloudy and taste bad. (see picture)

  • Chlorine is used to disinfect water and kill bacteria, but too much can create cancer-causing compounds called THMs (Trihalomethanes), which are produced when chlorine reacts with organic compounds in the water. Excess chlorine is linked to health problems like asthma, allergies, heart disease and cholesterol, while THMs have been linked to bladder and rectal cancer.

  • Heavy metals like mercury, zinc, copper and cadmium can enter the water as a result of industrial waste. In excessive concentration,  these metals can cause damage to the central nervous system.

  • Asbestos can leach into water via concrete water pipes and is linked to cancer.
